The “Young Leaders Network” is the key component of our Big Lottery, Awards for All funded Young Leaders project.
Everyone in the Young Leaders Network is interested in championing, encouraging, supporting and enabling more younger people to lead within their community and within organisations.
Most people in the Network will be young people themselves (mostly aged 18-25) supporting each other as peers. However, we are also encouraging older, more experienced trustees and leaders to join the network as “supporters” or “mentors” too.
The Network meets face to face every three weeks or so at our Network Meetings. These are a place to network, share ideas and experiences and troubleshoot problems together. But each meeting also include mini training sessions to cover a range of key themes and topics.
Every few months we’ll also hold ‘mock board meetings’ to practice committee skills together.
The meetings are complemented by an ‘always on’, private, online social network run by VANEL. It’s a place to discuss and share issues, thoughts and ideas between meetings. Again it’s about peer support but with more experienced mentors and supporters adding to the learning.
