vInvolved

North East Lincolnshire vinvolved Team

What is ‘v’

It’s the first letter in volunteering. It's also the name of the independent charity championing youth volunteering in England.  v’s mission is to inspire and engage a new generation of young volunteers. To achieve it, we've put young people at the heart of our organisation, working alongside staff and trustees in all aspects of decision-making. Together, we're committed to achieving a step change in the quality, quantity and diversity of youth volunteering in England.

Whatever you want out of volunteering your local vinvolved team, based at the Voluntary Action North East Lincolnshire office, can help you find it in your area. Your Youth Volunteer Adviser will provide a personalised service to match you with inspiring opportunities that fit into your life, further your ambitions and indulge your passions.

What does V do?

‘v’ exists to inspire a new generation of young volunteers (aged 16-25) in England and to enable a lasting change in the quality, quantity and diversity of youth volunteering. We a're totally committed to achieving this. Our aim is to create a culture where it is natural for young people to volunteer and natural for organisations to support them in doing so, because the benefits of volunteering are widely understood and celebrated.  V has a young adult’s lead group who help us to see what young people want, help us approach young adults in the appropriate manner and keep in contact with them in a way they will acknowledge and accept our work, help us make volunteering trendy and acceptable to young adults.

What can the ‘v’ do?

•    Help you set up your own interest group
•    Help research funding to run your project
•    Find volunteering opportunities locally, regionally, nationally or even internationally
•    Help develop new opportunities and support these new organisations to work with young adults
•    Look at training opportunities for you as a volunteer or for organisations supporting you
•    Accredit your volunteering hours and experiences

Who can join?

Any young person aged 16 to 25 years who wishes to get involved in volunteering, or is already involved.  Also any organisation who wishes to take on young volunteers aged 16 to 25 years and have the capacity to support and work with the volunteers, policies and procedures in place to ensure volunteer rights and responsibilities are recognised and protected.  If an organisation does not initially have these we can work with them to build their capacity around this and help research any training they may require.

Why get vinvolved?

North East Lincolnshire ‘v’ is relevant to you in your life by allowing you to get vinvolved in your community and help develop a positive image of young people of today. By becoming involved you can:
•    Get attention for positive issues or ideas that young adults hold

•    Help the community to speak with a stronger local voice
•    Help others less well off than yourself

How much time will it take?

Benefits of being involved include being able to improve employment and college or university admission prospects, develop personal skills and interests, socialise and network, give something back to the community, possibility of real ‘working’ experience references.

It is easy to get involved and it’s up to you how and when you participate. This could be:
•    attending single meetings / forum groups / helping at gala days
•    full time hours, providing you are not on benefits, but even if you are some allow for this anyway
•    part time hours where you do a couple of hours a week same time same day each week
•    Flexible hours weekly from home or within an organisation
•    Use your present skills or learn something totally new
