Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Umbrella Body

What is a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Umbrella Body?

We offer the facility here at Voluntary Action North East Lincolnshire for you to have your staff/volunteers CRB checked.  We are a registered umbrella body for CRB which means that we are able to provide you with the relevant application forms and are authorised to confirm and sign off applicant’s identification.

What does the CRB do?

The Criminal Records Bureau checks the applicant’s identity details first. It then checks lists held by the Police, Department for Education and Skills, and Department of Health. In addition an Enhanced Disclosure could contain ‘soft’ information about warnings, suspicions, investigations and unproven allegations.

Who can join?

Voluntary Action North East Lincolnshire offers this service to all voluntary, community and wider third sector organisations who wish to register with us.

Why get involved?

It is good practice to have all staff/volunteers CRB checked if they come into contact with children and young people or vulnerable adults in order to minimise the possibility of employing somebody who is unsuitable.

How much time will it take?

It takes about Fifteen minutes to attend the initial appointment in order to register your group for CRB checks.  After this, the individual applicants must then complete the CRB forms provided and attend a short meeting with an authorised signatory at Voluntary Action North East Lincolnshire in order that the applicant’s identification can be validated.
